Courtney Currie

Founder/ Dyslexia Specialist

Courtney is a wife, mother of 2 active boys, Christ follower, special needs advocate, and dyslexia specialist. She and her family moved to Texas after living in Chicago for more than 20 years, and now reside in McKinney. She graduated with a bachelors in rehabilitation studies and social work. While living in Chicago, Courtney went on to obtain a masters degree in social work and special education.  

Over the last 20 years, Courtney has worked as a special education teacher, case manager, and counselor for Chicago Public Schools and McKinney ISD. Most recently, Courtney has worked as a Reading Specialist and Dyslexia Therapist. 

Courtney believes in a whole child approach to education and wellness. “We cannot simply focus on academics without also pouring into the physical, mental, and spiritual health of a child” She is passionate about helping children  find their voice, use their gifts, and create the skills necessary for a bright and successful future.

  • Megan Campbell-Edwards

    Early Elementary
    Technology Specialist

    Ms. Megan recently moved to TX from South Africa where she taught for 16 years. Megan holds a Bachelors in Primary Education and is passionate about whole-child teaching and fostering the use of thoughtful technology in the classroom. Megan has a gift of making learning come to life.

  • Elizabeth Bowland

    Early Elementary

    Ms. Liz graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Education and a minor in Spanish and Science. Liz has been teacher for several years and in many states as she and her family traveled the US. For her the greatest part of being a teacher is seeing the spark of curiosity and love of learning ignite in those she works with.

  • Grace Brewer

    Upper Elementary
    Dyslexia Interventionist

    Ms. Grace is a Texas Tech graduate and is currently completing her masters degree in play therapy through SMU. Grace loves seeing children thrive. Her mission is to develop the full potential of each child academically, socially, and emotionally. During the day you will find her in the classroom and in the evening she continues her work with children to develop their confidence and foster social skills that connect them to an ever changing society.

  • Kary Hutto

    Upper Elementary
    Dyslexia Interventionist

    Kary is a former public and private school teacher and an artist. Her love of art is evident in the classroom. She uses creativity and compassion to help even the most frustrated reader confidently conquer reading. Kary has a love for learning new ways to reach all learners and is currently completing her dyslexia specialist certification.

  • Danielle Dill

    Middle School Math & Science Specialist

    Ms. Danielle, aka Ms Pickle, has degrees in Math and Civil Engineering from UTA. She is passionate about developing a love for learning through experiential, hands on methods of teaching. On any given day she is the first to move her class outside for a fresh perspective. Danielle does an amazing job bringing education to life and empowering her students to try something new .

  • Nicole Smith

    Middle School Reading Specialist
    Middle School History

    Nicole has taught for more than 15 years with degrees in Linguistics, English Literature, and Geography. Her experience is international from South Africa to London and now TX. She loves those lightbulb moments when a child finds the key to unlock all that they can be.

  • Jessica Johnson

    Middle School & Special Education Support

    Jessica, a former pre school teacher and special education aide has the gift of patience and practice. She has the ability to take any assignment, break it down, and help a child to see their success’ along the way to completion. For Ms Jess connection is key. One of the things we love best about her is the time she takes to authentically know the children she works with. From creative writing to Shakespeare Ms. Jess makes learning fun!

  • Jenny Gosser

    Upper Elementary ELAR
    SEL Specialist

    Ms Jenny received her degree in social work and spent many years working with families as they navigated grief and loss. Her experience and love of children makes her an excellent teacher for all kids. Ms Jenny believes in her kids, their ability to succeed, and works hard to help them to achieve their goals. She believes strongly in a whole child approach to education and strives to understand the connections of emotions and behaviors to learning. Ms Jenny feels it is imperative to embrace each student’s unique and individual character.

  • Staci Brooks

    Early Elementary

    Ms. Staci is starting her second year at TKCU! She is a graduate of Brigham Young University. She is originally from Virgina but moved to Texas about 10 years ago and absolutely loves it here! Ms. Staci has four children and three precious grandchildren. She loves to work with kids and is excited to help them learn and be their best self, each day!

  • Jennifer Smith

    Upper Elementary Math and Science

    Ms. Jennifer taught for 15 years prior to staying home to raise her son. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance, Associate Degrees in Musical Theater and Pastry Arts, and holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Dallas Baptist University. When she is not teaching, Ms. Jennifer runs a bakery from her home.

  • Karen Lamb

    Interventionist

    Ms. Karen earned her BA in Elementary Education at the College of William and Mary. She has a Master’s in Education with a specialization in reading from the University of Virginia. She is originally from Virginia and moved to Texas nine years ago. Ms. Karen homeschools her three children who are in high school and middle school. This is her first year teaching at TKCU and is excited to join the team due to the small classes. She enjoys this opportunity to really get to know each student and how they learn best.

  • Anita McNeill

    Interventionist

    Ms. Anita is a retired teacher and native Texan. She attended Texas A&M University in College Station where she received a Master’s in Wildlife Sciences and Education. Ms. Anita has more than 25 years educational experience with multiple age groups in Texas public schools, and she even worked in the Dallas Zoo Education Department as a coordinator and outreach teacher. She is excited to be at TKCU to support students in any way she can, as well as to share her passion for wildlife and writing.

  • Jana Corwin

    Head of Marketing

    Jana heads up all things marketing - from social media to event planning and so much more. She is the creative heart and mind behind TKC, and is essential to keeping our current and perspective families in the know.

  • Laura Sisson

    Head of TKC Administration and Scheduling

    Laura keeps us moving forward. She has a background in administration and accounting. Laura is the primary administrator overseeing TKC tutoring and counseling. She oversees scheduling, billing, parent communication, and is vital to making sure that our team has what they need to make the day run smoothly.

  • Maria Gibbs

    Admin

    Maria’s bright smile welcomes everyone that enters TKCU! We are so grateful to have her on our Admin team to help keep TKCU moving forward! She has a BA in History from Buena Vista University and a Master’s in Education from Morningside College. Maria taught school prior to staying home with her three beautiful daughters.

  • Tara Voigt

    Head of Admissions & Curriculum

    Ms Tara has taught k-6th and has a passion for making math easy and understandable. She graduated with her BA from Cal State Fullerton and her credential at Concordia Irvine. Ms Tara has always and will always believe that every child can learn and be successful.
